2016/17/18 Season

CHRISTMAS LUNCH 2018

On a bright, but chilly morning 36 Venerables set out to play the traditional 13 holes pre Xmas lunch, and were joined by a further 7 for lunch. A mixed bag of scores, with some of the teams apparently consuming sufficient alcoholic beverages before heading out to render their scores somewhat uncompetitive. However, one team consisting of messrs Sephton, Eggs, Kidman and Appleton, decided that they would go for a more competitive advantage by playing an extra 2 holes. Sadly, this was still insufficient to get them on the podium.

Our thanks to Bernard for organising the event, to Alan (one knee) Parkes for the raffle, to Grumpy and Noisy (aka Hill and Baker) for ensuring that everyone purchased a raffle ticket, to our intrepid photographer, Andrew Wyatt. and of course to the Akhtars for an excellent lunch.

The last event of 2017 was a great do. Excellent food, superb company, exciting raffle and funny hats- but sadly no golf as the course was suffering from snow aftermath. Many thanks for all who organised the day and to the Akhtars for the seasonal fare and service.

We celebrated the festive season with a somewhat symbolic round of  golf – teams of 3 playing 13 holes, Stableford. Altogether 47 players and 50 diners, the largest field since the event commenced in 2005. All thanks to those who made the day so successful, comprising enjoyable golf so well organised by Merv Cooke and his helpers, excellent Xmas fare generously served up by Mrs A and John A, funny hats and corny cracker jokes, a grand raffle well orchestrated by Alan Parkes with David Baker and Peter Hill. All overseen by Captain Richard Gardner and his softly spoken Vice Captain. Pity about the lost official photos but fortunately Andrew took these pics to remind us of such a splendid day.
